Judge orders governor to address marriage licenses altered by Kim Davis
A federal judge has ordered Kentucky's Democratic governor to weigh in on whether altered marriage licenses issued by Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis' office are valid. Davis opposes same-sex marriage for religious reasons. She spent five days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in defiance of a federal court order. When she got out of jail, she changed the licenses to remove her name and to say they were issued under the authority of a federal judge.

'Conversion therapy' endangers LGBT youth and must stop: U.S. report
Efforts to ban parents from subjecting their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) children to "conversion therapy" got a boost on Thursday from a U.S. government report that said the practice was dangerous and must stop. The Obama administration backed a petition in April to ban the practice nationwide, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) report gives further scientific backing to such calls.

Pope met privately with gay couple
The day before Pope Francis met anti-gay county clerk Kim Davis in Washington last week, he held a private meeting with a longtime friend from Argentina who has been in a same-sex relationship for 19 years. Yayo Grassi, an openly gay man, brought his partner, Iwan Bagus, as well several other friends to the Vatican Embassy on September 23 for a brief visit with the Pope. A video of the meeting shows Grassi and Francis greeting each other with a warm hug.
