The revelation that Fox News made contact with the White House over a false and malicious story could spell trouble for the network – and the president.

Fox News is no longer the most-watched primetime cable television network in America, after being overtaken by MSNBC. According to figures from global research company Nielsen, the network was the most-watched station during the weekday prime evening slot from 7pm to midnight between 17 and 21 July. During this time the more centrist network gained 2.34 million viewers, while Fox News had 2.25 million.

The network is entering dangerous territory to defend Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian attorney.

It was too closely associated with Roger Ailes and had become a target for mockery, say insiders.

According to Nielsen, MSNBC led the three cable networks between 8-11 p.m., averaging 611,000 viewers between the ages of 25 and 54, while dominating with 2,440,000 viewers overall.

A former Fox News radio correspondent is suing the network and its parent company over claims she was fired just 24 hours after contacting a ‘hotline’ set up to encourage employee complaints. Jessica Golloher, a reporter based in Israel, claims that “within 24 hours” of sending an email to the firm’s independent investigator, she was “without any prior warning, fired”. The legal action, the latest in a string of allegations levelled at the Rupert Murdoch-owned media giant, has been dismissed as “without merit” by 21st Century Fox.

Columnist, attorney, and former Fox News contributor Debbie Schlussel appeared on today’s Pat Campbell Show and accused Fox News Prime Time Host Sean Hannity of the same type of behavior that lead to Bill O’Reilly leaving the beleaguered network earlier this week. Among the allegations, Schlussel claims that while at an appearance in Detroit which they both attended, Hannity invited her back to his hotel room.

The Murdochs hoped firing Bill O’Reilly would signal a changing culture at Fox News. “We want to underscore our consistent commitment to fostering a work environment built on the values of trust and respect,” Rupert and his sons, James and Lachlan, wrote in a memo to Fox News employees on Wednesday. But the dismissal of Fox News’s highest rated host isn’t going to end the crisis at the network. The toxic culture, fostered for 20 years by former CEO Roger Ailes, is proving far more difficult to remedy.

"I'm told that they are taking it seriously, and they are going to do the investigation that's legally required of them," said Lisa Bloom on CNN. 21st Century Fox will be opening an investigation into the Bill O'Reilly sexual harassment claims, according to attorney Lisa Bloom, who is representing one of the Fox News anchor's accusers.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow’s special on the Trump/Russia scandal beat Fox News to be the most watched program on cable news regarding overall viewers and in the age 25-54 demographic for the 9 PM hour. Maddow’s special beat every other program in its time slot and all shows on all cable networks for the rest of the night. The MSNBC program was watched by 2.904 million viewers compared to Fox News’s program hosted by Tucker Carlson that had 2.850 million viewers.

The Manhattan US Attorneys office is conducting a criminal investigation into Fox News, informed sources told ABC News.
