Inc. magazine predicts that the size of the on-demand economy will reach nearly $57 billion this year, thanks to more than 35 percent of the United States workforce choosing freelance over full-time work. The popularity of the on-demand economy, and the multitude of jobs it provides, has helped fuel an at-will workforce. It’s easy to see the appeal of this new gig-based economy — work when you want, where you want, and at your own pace. But this quasi-American dream isn’t always as appealing as marketing might suggest.
