Destiny: The Guide Part One
In the Beginning
Introduction: Going through the opening of the game is geared more toward learning how the game is played. Making it the first step to become Legend. This brief guide will explain how to get through early content as smoothly as possible and attain level 20.
Enemy Kills: Every event you can participate in during this portion of the game will net XP from every enemy you kill; capping out at 250XP for Ultras. Unfortunately it is something that accrues over a long span of gameplay and is not a major factor to any kind of leveling in the game. Who can resist popping a few Fallen heads on Earth just for fun as a Kinderguardian once you first touch down.
00xp- Cursed Thrall
15XP- Thrall
20XP- Dreg, Shank, Acolyte, Goblin, Psion
25XP- Legionary, Harpy
30XP- Sevitor
35XP- (Stealth) Vandal, Hobgoblin, Phalanx
55XP- Captain, Knight, Minotaur, Centurion
90XP- Ogre, Hydra, Colossus
Patrol: Going and wandering the desolate lands around the solar system searching for some green blinky lights and whatever shiny material that can be picked up is pastime for many the Guardian. Whether it is good or bad is still up for debate. Important target patrol missions will get you 500XP and all the rest only 250XP. If you ever find yourself wandering the cosmodrome head on over to the Forgotten Shore and say, "hello" to Randal the Vandal for me. He's a friendly guy.
Story Missions: This is the meat of getting XP at this stage in the game: Approximate numbers,
Level 01-05: 1,000XP
Level 05-10: 2,000XP
Level 10-15: 3,000XP
Level 15-20: 4,000XP
Exact numbers are available upon mission selection and increasing the level with the heroic modifier gives a bonus to any available XP.
Strikes: Strikes are unlocked through the storymode progression at varying levels and will recieve progressively more XP, each is specified the same way story missions were. Upon reaching level eighteen the Vanguard Eagle playlist opens up and will matchmake you into random level 18 strikes from vanilla Destiny into fireteams of 3. These events also offer you guaranteed gear that will make life easier. Be aware it may take a little more time than the regular story missions and end with some seriously mean dudes to fight.
Bounties: Xander 99-40 located in the tower is the man you want to see, early on you will receive bounty missives from the Post Master that you can take to him. These early level bounties will net you 2,500XP-5,000XP. Later you will be able to go directly to the Bounty Tracker and receive your Crucible?Vanguard bounties. They are pretty necessary for keeping up with the story mode leveling system so pick them up when you can. For the most part they are easily accomplished while doing the story missions, going on patrol, or playing your favorite Crucible gametype.
Crucible: Crucible can be a very good method of gaining XP. A loss will net you 1,500XP and a win 2,000XP with bonuses based on how well you do in the match. Find some guns you like and get out there. With Crucible all weapons and armor are equalized so being a low level isn't as detrimental as it would immediately appear. Higher level weapons have more perks available to them but with some good play this is easily overcome.
Subclass: If you are starting your first character you will receive a specific subclass for your character with a second unlocking at Level 15. All experience gained will apply to leveling the equipped subclass and unlock its unique abilities.
Titan: Striker
Warlock: Voidwalker
Hunter: Gunslinger
Armor: At this point there really isn't much to be said about armor. Always pick what will give you a higher defense stat and do not waste any resources on this low level gear. No matter how much you want to; just wait.
Weapons: Similar to armor you want the highest damage possible. I suggest paying attention to the styles of primary/special you like and trying them all. If you find a particular set that you enjoy in crucible you may want to upgrade it and keep it around.
Final Note: This should be what you need to get through the start of the game. All the events can be done in fireteams of three with the exception of Crucible which allows six. You really want to save any resources you come across; weapon parts, class materials, planet materials, glimmer for a jump start in the next portion of the destiny gaming experience. Up next is all about just that! Currency and where you will be spending it.
