Destiny: The Guide Part Two

Money

Introduction: You have reached the higher echelons of the Destiny world! At level twenty you see that you can purchase the highest levels of gear and dandy about the solar system on patrol with nary the worry. Yeah, not really, those pesky Fallen Wolves are still wandering the land and you are still running in abject fear when they hop out of those blue drop ships to go on the prowl. Randal is probably occasionally getting mad and mopping the Forgotten Shore with your dinky little towel, cloak, or coattails. You are still saying, "Hi" to Randal for me when you're in the area, right? What to do now, and how do you become one of those walking pieces of reinforced concrete you see in the Tower and on Patrol? I'm going to start with some of the basics; here is an introduction to currency and vendors.

Currency: The most noteworthy of the crowd.

  • Glimmer: The main currency of Destiny, used for upgrades to your gear and at vendors. A little bit of this is often used in conjunction with other currencies to purchase the objects of your desire.

  • Crucible/Vanguard Marks: This is the main Faction/Crucible/Vanguard currency. With it you can purchase weapons, armor, sparrows, and Planet Materials. At the start you want as much of it as you can possibly get your hands on and in the end you will wonder what to do with it all.

  • Mote of Light: Used to purchase gear from the Speaker, Exotic Engrams from Xur, and reroll weapons at the Gunsmith. The last of which will leave you begging for weapon parts in the Reef and crying yourself to sleep at night.

  • Strange Coin: The currency of Xur.

  • Upgrade Materials: Used to upgrade your gear, I suggest stockpiling as early as you can. Planet Materials can be purchased with Marks from the Vanguard/Crucible Vendor. Farming them from corresponding planets used to be all the....rage. At this stage in the games development just grabbing them as you see them when you are out and about will probably suffice. Guardian class specific armor materials; Plasteel Plating, Hadronic Essence, Saphire Wire. All acquired through dismantling the corresponding Class armor green through yellow.

  • Etheric Light: A unique upgrade material that ascends low level legendary gear to the max damage and light levels. It can be attained in various ways through House of Wolves end game events.

Bounty Vendors: Performing these bounties is one of the quickest ways to upgrading all of the sweet, sweet loot you are about to be getting.

  • Xander 99-40: Xander posts the Vanguard and Crucible bounties in the Tower and has a counterpart located at the Vestian Outpost. Both Bounty Trackers post the same Bounties which rotate daily.

  • Eris Morn: The only survivor of a fireteam that entered the Hellmouth, hunting Crota. She rotates between five bounties daily and sells a variety of shaders, emblems and unique currency. Located at the Tower.

  • Petra Veng: Swearing loyalty only to the Queen of the Reef. She hands out six head-hunter bounties that rotate weakly. Upon completion of your first weekly bounty you will receive one Treasure Key She also offers a ship, sidearm and shaders.

  • Exotic Bounties: These are issued at random upon turning in a completed bounty. If one is obtained outside of a Bounty Tracker a missive is received and they must be turned in to get your choice of bounty. Here is an in depth guide to completing these bounties. Upon completion you will receive the corresponding exotic weapon. Super Good Advice, Bad Juju, Pocket Infinity, Invective, Thorn.

Faction Vendors: These vendors are where you are really going to begin the process of leveling your character up to level thirty-two. I would personally first suggest to leveling your Crucible and Vanguard and get gear from them, but everyone seems to pick a faction off the get-go. A difficult thing if you aren't a huge Crucible fan as the following Factions will only except Crucible marks.

Picking a Faction: Every faction has a full set of armor available with a unique style of their own. They are all represented by a certain set of emblems and color schemes making them clearly distinctive. While you may be thinking red and white are your two favorite colors or I'm so f****** emo I need the Revenant shader NOW! You might want to take a closer look at the weapons if that is how you feel. They all have individual weapon sets that may not fit you at all. I urge you to consider everything they have to offer and then go pick Dead Orbit.

For the sake of brevity, Shaders.

Unique Vendors These vendors are sprinkled about the world of destiny to serve a multitude of purposes and add a multitude of headaches concerning a handful of slots in your Vault.

  • Xur: Agent of the Nine.

  • Variks: Anything to do with Prison of Elders this is the Fallen you go to. Notable wares are armor, weapons, ships and shaders. Upon receiving an Elder Cipher this is the Fallen you want to see. Unlike other exotic weapon bounties this one is straightforward and easily obtained through defeating Skolas in the thirty-five Prison of Elders.

  • Brother Vance: This is your man for the Trials of Osiris. Go grab your permission slip and maybe some boons to participate in the biggest competition in the solar system. Once you have defeated your foes and reign victorious over your beaten and bloodied enemies return to him for some of the most sought after gear in the game.

  • Lord Saladin: Your Iron Banner representative and the place where you receive your just rewards after grinding through Guardians at the monthly event.

  • The Speaker: Part messiah, part money exchange, part snazzy outfitter. His main function will be sorting out all the extra materials you get from Destinys two awesome raids.

  • Banshee 44: The place to reroll your weapons; or get synths and telemetries.

  • Cryptarch: "You have no power here!"

  • Amanda Holliday: The towers local Shipwright sells, you guessed it, ships! You can also turn in blueprints that you wont ever use to her.

  • Eva Levante: She sells a rotating supply of various shaders and emblems. Always keep an eye on her as she occasionally sells some pretty rare emblems that look stellar.

  • Tess Everis: I...uhm...beats me dude.

Finally the Final note: That pretty much covers everything I possibly could with the size constraints. All the various currency left out is pretty self explanatory. The most notable of which is Raid Materials, you use those on corresponding Raid Items. In the next part I will be going over all the PvE post level twenty content with links to grimoire and more comprehensive and specific guides to each individual event. PvP is coming, I just need to figure out how to tackle it without ruffling all the feathers.
