What does loli and lolicon Mean?

Japan is famous for many things and few of them are popular cultures that came into the origin only because of the power Japanese have of creating beautiful anime. The whole world follows the amazing content created by such a small country and due to this we can see so many different fashion trends, popular cultures that normally people would have no idea about. Now there are many categories (or you can call them genres) that we can see in these Japanese portrayed media and one of them is a loli. Loli refers to the Japanese art or media portraying young girls (mostly prepubescent) that have slightly erotic characteristics to them which creates a whole different sub-culture inside normal genres. Loli is relatively famous and if you have been following Japanese media works then you must have seen this somewhere like in some manga or anime genre which doesn’t necessarily say loli as a genre but you know it is in there.

While loli is referred to as a character but it can be used to refer to a more subtle sub-genre that can be seen mixed with the storyline. To explain things in a better way let us give you an example of loli and how it is portrayed in Japanese media combined with other genres. Most of the loli characters can be noticed easily because of the fact that when you see a cute girl who is on the younger side of the teenager phase has really cute features like big round eyes, small cute face, really good hairstyle and have really soft features. If you see a character like this in any anime and the storyline shows some sort of romantic interest in that character, then you can see loli as a sub-genre at play.

Now to see the other side of the story we can focus on lolicon which can be referred to as being sexually attracted to characters like loli. This can be confusing if you did not understand what loli means so make sure you know what it is and in what context it is being used. When some sort of sexual tension is trying to be implicated between characters in an anime or manga (or any other Japanese media) and one of those characters is a cute prepubescent girl then that right there is lolicon at play. Now some people believe lolicon represents an abuse of children especially small teenage girls but in reality, it is just a plot of the story and if we take any other genre seriously all of them can have negative impacts of their own which is why lolicon is not so different. Some countries outside japan even try to change the meaning of lolicon and use it as slang for abuse of teenage girls.
