Everything About Milk Pasteurization process

The pasteurization process makes the milk suitable for consumption for a longer time. This is the reason pasteurized milk is popular among consumers in different parts of the world. In case you are not aware of the process then the read given topic as we have mentioned everything in detail.

Back in 1880, Louis Pasteur's (French Scientist) discovered that by heating an edible item it helps in killing the microorganisms and it also prevents it from getting spoilt. This is referred to as pasteurization and since then it has been in use for storing the food items.

This concept is used by many large-scale industries like dairy, beverages, and food. Mostly, the users now opt for packaged food so it becomes important that they do not get spoilt. In that case, the largest users of the pasteurization process are done for milk and milk products.

Advantages of Milk Pasteurization

In the milk plant, before packaging heating the milk so that bacteria is killed and making it best for human consumption. Well, this process does offer various advantages:

Increased consumption rate

The milk we consume has increased shelf-life now which is because of pasteurization. This eventually helps in increasing the consumption rate. So, it is essential that in your milk processing plant every step is done properly so that milk is delivered to the end-users in the best way possible.

Decreased risk of illness or health issue

With pasteurization, the harmful bacteria are killed from the milk. With this, the chances of getting sick after consuming milk are also reduced.

Increased Nutritional value

It helps in killing the pathogens which help in increasing the nutritional value. This means anyone can consume milk and they will get health benefits from it.

Different types of Pasteurization

In the market, various milk pasteurizers are available which help in solving the different needs. Pasteurization had 3 different categories:

High-Temperature Short Time (HTST)-

This is the most popular way of preserving milk. This is also called continuous flow pasteurization or flash pasteurization. The milk is heated to a specific temperature which is around 161-degree Fahrenheit for 15 seconds so that bacteria are killed. The milk pasteurized with this method should be consumed within 16 to 21 days.

Ultra-Pasteurization

This is the second most popular method and the most economical way of preserving milk. With this method of pasteurization, the milk can be stored for 2 months. This will be helpful in case of double cream and half & half milk packing. The milk is heated at around 280 degrees Fahrenheit.

Vat pasteurization

The most expensive and longest method of milk pasteurization. For 30 minutes the milk is heated at around 145 degrees Fahrenheit and the temperature of 30 degrees Fahrenheit is cooled down. For raw milk, it is the best alternative and not easily available.

What are the benefits of using tunnel Pasteurization?

Tunnel pasteurization is made of stainless steel chambers which is present in different sizes and shapes. The bottles passing through the chambers are put in contact with hot water sprays, kept in tubs of hot water, or with the use of steam. This method might be expensive but its working is easy. The working is well-programmed which means they will stop on its own when work is done.
