Tips to keep your dog out of trash can
Most of the time, your dog is your true friend. At times, however the dog is more like a mischievous boy. And falling into the garbage is one of the most prevalent acts of mischief they indulge in. A dog is seduced by the smells in your garbage can, so you can have trouble holding them out. Fortunately, to keep your dog away from your garbage can, you can use a dog proof trash can.
There are also some other simple precautions you can take such as:-
If you have a pantry, it's a safe place to place your trash can. Your dog can't attack something they can't see, after all. The downside of this choice is that any time you exit it, you may have to remember to shut the pantry door, so whether you or a member of the family are forgetful, this does not fit completely. Furthermore a trash can that is out of sight is out of view, which means that before trash day you can fail to take out the garbage. Putting the garbage can in a small pantry is another choice. This will, of course, force you to use a small trash can, which requires further trips out to the garbage bin or dumpster outside. And if your dog is smart enough to unlock doors, you're going to have to install a child-safe lock on the cabinet that's in your garbage can.
Keep your dog from being bored:- Your dog could only see the garbage can being raided as a way to keep himself busy. You ought to keep the dog from getting tired if this is the case. Playing with your pet when you're home is one way to do things so that they get their stress out before you go. Another valuable tip is to leave them with toys that, when you are gone, will ease their boredom. It would make them less likely to go looking for trouble by eating dolls, bones, and other items that occupy them.
Use Baby Gates:- It has different purposes but you can use baby gates to close off the kitchen. Of course, for dogs who are good at jumping, such as Labradors and German Shepherds, this does not work too well.
Make sure that your dog is well-fed:- You take care of your cat, of course, which means feeding your pet. It's likely, though, that it's simply not enough, causing them to reach for more food in the trash can. Although general instructions on how much you can feed your pet are included in the dog food package, the guidelines may not be ideal for your dog. Some dogs have metabolisms that are higher; some dogs get more exercise than others. To decide whether your pet is having the proper amount to eat, consider talking to the doctor.
Scold your pet:- Your first impulse is to punish your dog when you come home and see litter scattered all over the house. However once you find them in the act, it is usually not a smart idea to discipline them too severely. If you put your dog in the garbage can, point to it, say "no and ground it in their kennel, they might realise exactly what's going on. Other fuzzy companions are though, a bit denser. Not every dog is going to understand that it is punishing them. You ought to discipline them after finding them in the act in order to make sure that the message really lasts.
