EU plans to end caged animal farming
The European Union will work to phase out caged animal farming across the bloc, after a petition calling for an end to the practice gathered more than a million signatures. The European Commission has outlined plans to propose legislation which would phase out -- and ultimately ban -- cages for farm animals, including rabbits, young hens, quails, ducks and geese.

French hunters must stop using glue to trap birds
French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered hunters in southern France to stop the controversial practice of trapping birds on glue-covered twigs. The suspension follows a warning to France from the European Commission that it could face legal action at EU level if the practice continued. France is unusual in Europe for still tolerating the glue method, used to catch thrushes and blackbirds.

Fast Food Chain KFC Admits To Animal Welfare Abuses
Fast food giant KFC has opened up about the quality of life its chickens endure before being sent to slaughter. KFC has reported that over a third of the birds used for its world-famous fried chicken suffer from a condition called footpad dermatitis. This painful condition causes inflammation in the feet, and can prevent the birds from being able to walk.
