Android's Bluetooth latency needs a serious overhaul
If it wasn’t annoying enough that Android has some issues with sound quality differences of Bluetooth audio codecs, it seems as if there’s a latency problem as well. While it’s not an issue for music playback, Bluetooth latency is an important factor when watching movies, making calls, and playing games. You’ve probably already noticed it yourself when pausing music or skipping to the next track. There’s a lag between your input and the sound changing in your ear. With gaming, in particular, lag from audio cues can be particularly jarring.

ASUS will reportedly no longer make ZenPad tablets
The tablet market sees domination from Apple’s iPad lineup, and to an extent, from Samsung’s and Huawei’s tablet lineup. Outside of these two, most OEMs have either withdrawn themselves from the market, or are sticking around despite poor sales. Now, a new report mentions that Asus will no longer make ZenPad tablets, meaning that the OEM has left the market.

Hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy Fold: more than just a concept
Two months after an announcement where Samsung talked about the Galaxy Fold but didn’t allow anybody to actually touch it, we finally got our hands on it today. The $1,980 device begins shipping on April 26th, but it will likely be in very limited quantities. Here’s the TL;DR most of you are waiting for: it feels much more stable and polished than I expected going in, but there is still some work to be done on the software.

Google ends sales of the Pixel 2 and 2 XL
Google has stopped selling its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. As noticed by Android Police, URLs for the Pixel 2 at the company’s store now simply take users to the newer Pixel 3 instead. Some stock remains available from other retailers: Best Buy is currently selling its remaining stock of the Pixel 2 XL (64GB in black) for $399.99. Sadly, the black-and-white “panda” model is a goner. Verizon, the Pixel 2’s exclusive US carrier, ended sales of the smaller device back in October upon the announcement of its successor.

Seven years ago today, Samsung beat Nokia to become global #1 OEM
Nokia had enjoyed 14 years as the number one global cell phone maker. The Finnish company’s phones were ubiquitous throughout the late 90s and 2000s, but the rise of the smartphone era would see it stumble. By the end of the first quarter of 2012, Samsung had charged ahead of its rival in global smartphone shipments, and Nokia would continue to nosedive thereafter.

Samsung is working on ‘perfect full-screen’ devices with selfie cameras under the display
Samsung is working on making the entire front of its phones a screen, with no need for bezels or a camera cutout of any kind. Yonhap News Agency reports that the company’s vice president of its display R&D group, Yang Byung-duk, said that “though it wouldn’t be possible to make (a full-screen smartphone) in the next 1-2 years, the technology can move forward to the point where the camera hole will be invisible, while not affecting the camera’s function in any way.”

I switched to Android after more than a decade with the iPhone, and retro gaming has all but ensured I'll never go back
Four months ago, I did what I previously thought was unthinkable. I gave up my iPhone. I'd been using Apple products since I was eight and had been locked into iOS and the iPhone since a bespectacled Steve Jobs unveiled it in 2007. The change came after much public deliberating, a few close calls, and a tip from my colleague on the tech desk, Antonio Villas-Boas, who called the $580 OnePlus 6T "the best smartphone you've never heard of."

Even more phones will get early Android beta updates this year
At last year's I/O, Google surprised many of us by announcing that the Android P beta would not only be available on the Pixel line-up, but also on select devices from other manufacturers. Project Treble played a huge role in making that possible, and things are going to be even better this year: more companies will be part of the Q beta than P.

The latest Android devices now let you log into apps without requiring a password
Here’s a good reason to update to your latest version of Google Play Services: Android devices running version 7.0 and later can now log you into apps and websites without requiring you to type in a password. Using FIDO2, an open standard developed by the FIDO Alliance, the update instead uses your fingerprint or PIN to log you into various services.
