How To Study Effectively Through Study Groups

  • Studying with friends can be a great way to learn. A study session with friends can be an excellent way to help you grasp difficult subjects, prepare for upcoming exams and at the same time have a fun time doing so. If you make your study sessions a regular practice like a weekly meeting then it will be effective, however keep in mind that if you are not too careful these sessions can easily turn in to hangout sessions with friends without any studying done. The following guidelines will give you some tips on how to make some careful choices when forming a study group. There are factors such as the structure and studying techniques that will be useful in order to make the learning experience an effective and successful one for all involved.

    Selecting Group Members

An ideal study group consists of around 3 or 4 members and not more than 5. Take time to really work out in selecting who you want in the group. The agile fundamentals course is a great way to collaborate with others for group study sessions. Some significant traits in your friends’ personalities may give you a good indication on if you would like them in the group or not. For example, if there is someone who is particularly not keen on doing what they are asked to do, then this might be a difficult person to work with. You can always work your way around different types of people however, keeping check of what their work ethics are will give you a good idea of what it is like to work with them.

    Choosing a Location to Study

Having good members in the group will mean nothing if you pick a wrong place to study. Some good choices to study are quiet places such as the local library or a coffee shop. Someone’s home would do as well however there are more distractions at a home than a library so keep that in mind when picking a place. Moreover, think about additional costs if you go to a coffee shop and access to other resources such as art supplies if need be. Will you need access to the internet, for example? Libraries offer large study rooms that accommodate group study sessions but make sure to reserve these rooms prior.

    Time and Committing

Regular study sessions are often effective rather than having a session once in a blue moon or cramming everything right before an exam. Therefore, discuss with your group members and set up sessions regularly with times that work for everyone. Meeting once a week is ideal. It is important for everyone to make a commitment to the group. This means that everyone needs to be punctual, ready to work and complete the prep work before every session. If everyone is on the same page, then it will show great results and everyone will have a great time studying together. Furthermore, keep it interesting by taking small, yet fun breaks each time a goal or task is completed by the group as a whole. This makes it more fun to study and remember all work and no fun is always a dull way to do things.
