The death of Queen Elizabeth will be the most disruptive event in Britain in the last 70 years
Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God Queen of this Realm and of Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, is not going to live forever. Since ascending to the throne in 1952, the monarch has seen 12 Prime Ministers serve Britain, and lived through another 12 US Presidents. She's now 88. At some point — not for many years yet, we hope — Queen Elizabeth II's reign will come to an end. But what happens then?

Yes. It mentioned a few things I hadn't thought of, like the currency. In return I give you postboxes and postage stamps. I sincerely hope she beats Victoria and I'd be quite pleased if she made it as far as her mother's age. What I'm not enthusiastic about is Charles. He has some bloody silly ideas. Oh well, some of our previous monarchs had them too.
I'm really rather dreading it when the Queen pops her clogs. It was awful when Diana died, all eerily quiet and everyone I met wanted to talk about something that involved her. But Queen Elizabeth is very different. She's a funny little woman and tough as old boots but she's been the boss for my whole life and I'd like it to stay that way. Oh well, c'est la guerre, Pierre.
"66% of respondents in one survey saying Britain is better off as a Monarch" - I think the author should know better than to omit the fact that this was carried out by the Telegraph.
