The concept of a fiber cable detecting border crossings seems promising, but the article assumes that the motivation for a wall is based on what would be most effective at keeping immigrants out, which couldn't be farther from the case.
Trump doesn't want tighter border security, he wants a monument to his image that will last forever. It's why he can't talk about it for two sentences without mentioning how "HUGE" and "TREMENDOUS" it's going to be, and it's why he will never consider anything else as an option, he's only pushing the wall to stroke his own ego.
