Linux and its base got too big to ignore. Right on for the open-source guys!
Microsoft is/was king of the desktop, but it realised a while ago that google and facebook and phones were what it needed to beat. It's trying to harvest personal data off people with Windows 10. It's own search engine and phones were failures, but it still can make a lot of people use bing by default and it is still trying to force everyone to use MS Office. It's just conflicted, it wants everyone to pay to use Office, rather than give them away for free and get all that sweet data.
