It probably only broadcasts its heartbeat back to earth with that 10 watts of power, at least that's my guess. Did it say anywhere in the article how its receive system works? I'd have to assume the array they're using to blast data all the way out to Pluto has some serious power and range behind it.

I suppose that makes sense, but on the other hand, the people that would engage in egregious behavior with a downvote button will just find other ways to be obnoxious, anyway. This seems like the least awful way of going about it, at least in my opinion.

Hell, I won't buy anything without expandable memory. The real dealbreaker for me is the lack of USB, headphone jacks I can get around with Bluetooth accessories, which I'm sure this thing also lacks capability for.

ELI5, please. From skimming it, it looks like just an extension of the laughable #GiveYourMoneyToWomen Twitter campaign. I'd have hoped this was satire or someone taking the piss out of it, but the folks in the comments seem to sincere in acceding to this.

This silly digital civil war. I don't understand why everyone is harping on about this Reddit nonsense.

It's just a friggin' website, there are more of them.

    Agreed.

It's weird, because whenever I get a call from someone and they ask what I'm doing I usually just say "nothing" because "thinking about stuff" has negative connotations for some reason. So a lot of the folks I know think I sit on my ass all day staring at a wall.

But that's not true at all! I'm always thinking about things to do. What is the next picture I'm going to draw? What would be a great story to tell and what medium should I use to tell it? Do I have any podcasts to edit and if so, how should I do it? What funny thing can I sneak into my Let's Play post-prod? Is there a melody running through my noggin somewhere? There's always something for me to do, I just have to spend some time thinking about them first.

This one-size-fits-all self help stuff always kind of gets on my tits, anyway, since everyone's mind works differently. My wife was telling me I should start meditating for some reason, but my brain doesn't stop running. There are projects to do! I can't spend my whole life with my eyes closed thinking about nothing.

Can't we just dislike lying, deceitful people that attempt to implement drastic changes to an open platform regardless of their gender? The gender doesn't matter, if Steve Huffman's AMA today has indicated anything, nobody in the commentariat trusts anyone in the upper echelons of the userbase anymore.

I don't know why anyone would want the downvote functionality removed, anyway. It either means what you wrote as a comment or posted as a snap was either unnecessary or incendiary. It's not like it publicly shows up anywhere, and while your rep can go down, you'd have to actively try to go below 65% rep with how welcoming and accepting this community is.

I don't know, I think this whole New Horizons thing is 100% awesome. Seeing a picture of Charon so clearly was breathtaking to me. Like, this is the first time in history that anyone has seen something that small and that far away in such details. It's astonishing.

Hell, I barely trust anyone that considers themselves to be "the smartest person in the room" regardless of their skin color. Bravado and puffery are really disingenuous traits, in my experience.

I have wanted to pick this book up, though. Coates seems like someone that can finally articulate what they're talking about with grace and verisimilitude without talking down to his audience, and that might be because this book was written for his son to understand some of the truth behind race relations.

Hell, people that have manic depression and might be suicidal are considered weak by some for not being able to just "tough it out". People are always scared and cruel toward things they don't understand.

I don't understand why anyone would think this kind of behavior is acceptable. You don't try to ruin someone's livelihood because they fucking disagree with you.

Some folks just need to get their heads out of their asses.

In honor of the Giant Days #5 release tomorrow, here are all the covers i’ve done for the first six issues. We all thought bookending the first story arc with Esther would be nice. You can see a five page preview here along with a really nice interview with me and John! There’s also a review of the issue out… if you need additional convincing.

"Let's stop seeing color" is a nice thought, but it doesn't work in practice. Instead, recognizing that it's okay to be a different color, and that I'm not more likely to be a criminal because of my color, would be super awesome. And you you might get that, but there are many, many people that don't, whether the article demonstrates that well or not.

My wife's mixed race, so she got it from everybody, from within and without. Everyone can be a total dickwad, regardless the color of their skin. It seems obvious that the corollary is true, as well. It's just that telling racists they're racist isn't going to do anything, they know it's wrong to do what they're doing, but something about their brain wiring is fucked and they do it anyway.

All I'm saying is that chastising white people, labeling them all as racists because of what some hypothetical schmuck in Alabama does isn't going to help. It's going to push more folks away from whatever these people are trying to do.
