Tesla Is Building a Battery to Power Your Home
It's not quite a Tesla in your living room, but Elon Musk is working on porting the electric car's advanced battery for home use. Production may begin within the next six months. Similar batteries (like that used in the Toyota Mirai) use fuel cells capable of powering a home for a week. Musk hasn't given an estimate of how long his would last, nor how it would be charged, though many solar energy enthusiasts use batteries to store solar electricity for cloudy days to prevent brown-outs.
