There Are 2 Kinds Of Writing. The Best Kind Plays At This Intersection
If you want to become a writer, you have to write.
Some writers write stories.
They have a knack for painting relatable characters, calling them to adventure, and then capturing their metamorphosis with the reader (Joseph Campbell coined this The Hero’s Journey).
Other writers write (let’s call them) “articles.”
They aren’t painting as much as they are instructing, teaching, guiding the reader through a series of thoughts with the purpose of helping them arrive at an intended conclusion.
Most writers don’t understand the difference. But readers do.
