[Opinion] Canonical's Ubuntu IP policy is garbage
Canonical have a legal policy surrounding reuse of Intellectual Property they own in Ubuntu, and you can find it here. It's recently been modified to handle concerns raised by various people including the Free Software Foundation[1], who have some further opinions on the matter here.

Hmmm. I'm really not sure I agree there. First of all, trademark protection is okay, especially when it's pretty much all you have, as is Ubuntu's case. The fact that you can just rebuilt and remove trademark is a plus, to me, as it's 1) better, engineering wise, you want to fork completely, and not half-assedly. 2) It's completely logical. I see in this first step something concrete, something we really didn't have before. The FSF is half-happy, and coming from them, I see that as a huge win.
