What kind of scientists do we have nowadays? "We don't know why", seriously? It seems that while hunting and gathering, eyesight and sense of hearing helps. Also with pin-pointing danger, thus avoiding it or reacting to it, it kinda helps to know where sounds come from. Even in this day and age it still comes in handy: while crossing a street or finding a friend back in a busy supermarket.
My guess is that scientists are a bit too quick in publishing all they do. I also think that scientists are locked up in little boxes called their specialisation and never look any further than that. Because, you know, publishing as much as you can is more important than thinking a bit.
