That's a sensationalist headline there... there is no way in hell they are a waste of money, for a small amount of money the hardcover gets digitalized, goes on the Amazon/Kobo shelf and guess what, Amazon/Kobo can't decrease the price like the guys over at Barnes & Noble. Are ebooks not sold as much, absolutely, but most figured as much all along, not that long ago we had all those sensational headlines about "ebooks outpace hardcovers" and such, truth was at the time all marketing for the ebooks was being put into the pricing of the marketing for the hardcover, meaning the ebook had an unfair price advantage.

As to the headline itself, it's like me going "Are Organics a waste of money? The surprising winner when it comes to eating" because non-organics are cheaper and bought more.

Personal preference I've got too much money in my Kindle to give up on them now, I hate I don't own them but I like being able to blow the font up and read at a decent font size, I like carrying 500 books at once in case I don't like the one I was reading, it's just a preference of convenience, I too like a paper book, hate a hard cover.
