Incoming Mexican president takes a 60% pay cut in governmental austerity push
Mexican president-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador plans to slash his salary, earning less than half of what the current leader makes when he takes office as part of an austerity push in government. “What we want is for the budget to reach everybody,” he told reporters in front of his campaign headquarters on Sunday. Glancing at a piece of paper with numbers on it, Lopez Obrador revealed he’ll take home 108,000 pesos a month (£4,300), and no public official will be able to earn more than the president during his six-year term.
