This explains the increase of new species in Puerto Rico. Illegal bird-trade has brought in many species from the Amazon region of South America into Puerto Rico. Only recently has the federal government started to monitor and control the influx. I am seeing so many new beautiful species on the Island, yet fear that lack of control can also harm other species, and create a significant dis-balance. Now control levels have been established for tropical and exotic species, but the government employees are so extremely underpaid that anyone can find any type of bird desired, for a few under-the-table dollars. I feel like the birds have been turned into prostitution. ...my 2 cents.
