This is borderline abusive behavior on the parts of the coaches. Teaching an entire team to cheat their way to the top? I've always been a little offput by children's sports leagues and this just further cements that in my mind. Sure, they can be good teambuilding exercises, but far too often, it seems the adults take it far too seriously. I've seen adult spectators jeering kids who strike out and coaches literally screaming at children that don't perform to their standards. I just can't see the value in these events.
I am sorry to say I have seen some of the things you describe in our local youth leagues the last couple of years. A couple of coaches (most are good) just teaching that winning is everything instead of teaching these young kids the basics.
"So, kids, what did we learn today? That cheating never pays, and adults are the worst." Coaching kids the wrong way,I hope the coaches are never allowed to be a part of a youth team again.
