Religion... the biggest cash cow there ever was.
This is just a way for people to feel like their slate has been wiped clean. It just goes to show what people are willing to do in order for a fresh spiritual start. I think that there are much more convenient ways of doing this though.
And cheaper.
I think that additional oil sure turned the tide on that failing exorcism.
