NASA is about to inflate the space station’s first-ever expandable room
Inflatable rooms. These, it turns out, are likely to play an important role in future deep-space missions when astronauts are expected to travel to Mars and beyond. Taking a giant leap toward this lofty goal, the International Space Station (ISS) recently took delivery of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM), a habitat that can be packed into a small space for transportation before being inflated to five times its original size.
