He added: “We also had black Confederates fighting for the South as well, which gets left out of history books.”

As The Post has reported previously, that claim has been rejected by most historians but is often made by groups seeking to play down slavery’s role as a cause of the Civil War.

There are numerous accounts of blacks serving in the Confederate Army, in support roles as well as combat. Rejection of documented service by blacks is just revisionist history on display..............http://civilwarhome.com/blacks.htm

Here is the link the Post gave, and that I regrettably failed to preserve in my quotation, which deals with the same claims by Sons of Confederate Veterans that you raise. Apologies.

Walter Williams is no Son of Confederate Veterans..... LOL, The fact that blacks served the Confederate Army in many roles including combat is irrefutable/documented, only the numbers are of contention. Any historian that disputes that fact is not a student of history, but of PC politics........http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2011/09/black-confederates/
