Facebook could block news in Canada over revenue-sharing bill, exec says

Facebook hasn’t ruled out blocking news on its platform in Canada over the Liberal government’s news revenue-sharing bill, a company executive told MPs Tuesday. Rachel Curran, the public policy manager for Canada at Meta, Facebook’s parent company, was asked at a parliamentary committee whether the company could repeat what it did in Australia last year in response to similar legislation, when it temporarily prohibited news content on Facebook.
