Rajasthan has always been known for its deserts, for the scorching summers, the high soaring temperatures, the loo that rave throughout the state. However, lesser known are the lakes of the state. The state is known for its several lakes as well. There are some natural lakes, while others have been man-made with special focus on lack of water throughout the state.

Ana Sagar Lake Located in Ajmer, it seems as if its water in a bowl, with short mountains surrounding it from all the sides. Ajmer is well-known for the rich history and various hidden beauties amid the desert, and no doubt, Dargah Sharif is the most attractive tourist spot for visitors. However, Ana Sagar Lake is one that cannot be missed. Rajasthan news channel keeps showing documentaries about the lake and inform us that it was built in 1135-1150 A.D. by Raja Anaji, grandfather of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, after whom the lake has been named. Other than providing a constant supply of water, it was also the lake where all the rain water was dumped to be used during the season when it hardly rained. To add to the attractions of the lake, it is surrounded by Daulat Bagh, which was later built by Shah Jahan.
The lake, though a beauty during winters and rainy season, dries up during the summers. The authorities can still work for the betterment of the lake.
Dhebar Lake Dhebar Lake is also known as Jaisamand Lake; however, Rajasthan online live news channel says what make it famous is that it is the second largest man-made lake in Asia. Located in Udaipur, this lake built in 17th century, covers an area of 87 km2. It was Maharana Jai Singh who got this lake built in the year 1685; the year that it was built it was the largest lake all over the world. What made Maharana Jai Singh build this lake was the requirement of cultivation water for the Mewar region. History has it that on the day of inauguration of the lake, the Maharana walked through the dam, distributing gold to the needy. Later on, the queens got their summer palaces surrounding the lake. Live TV channel Rajasthan also says that there are three islands on the lake, which are still inhabited by the Bhils, native tribes of Rajasthan.
Fateh Sagar Lake Located in Udaipur, Fateh Sagar Lake is known as the pride of City of Lakes as Udaipur is better known to be. This once again is an artificial lake initially built by Maharana Jai Singh of Udaipur in the 1680s.
The first that this lake was built by Maharana Jai Singh was in the year 1687, however, later floods washed out a few parts of the lake, which had to be rebuild by Maharana Fateh Singh in the year 1888. Amazing is the way the lake had been planned with three water intake channels and one channel to handle the overflow. The beauty of the lake is enhanced by the three islands which are easily accessible by a waterboat ride. More than anything, the lake is loved for the romantic time couples can spend while boating or walking on the sides of the lake. Live TV in Rajasthan offers that legend says that an elderly sage, Rasia Balam and Kunwari Kanya had fallen in love with each other, however were preventing from getting married to each other by their parents and some Godly presence. Legend says that Shakambru Devi, the deity goddess worshipped by Chauhans, blessed the place of Sambhar to convert to town of precious metals, however, the residents were worried that their richness can attract several feuds, so requested the goddess to take back her boon, who wasn’t able to take it back but changed the town of metals to town of salt. There’s a special temple dedicated to Shakambari Devi, close to the lake.
According to Rajasthan live news channel, Sambhar Wildlife Santuary covers an area of 24.000 hectares with a wide range of flora and fauna. The place is known for the wide range of variety of breeds of birds. The most commonly found birds are coots, redshanks, black winged stilts. The place is also known for preserving tigers in a natural habitat.
