Paint 3D is a horrible replacement, my guess is that regular paint is a desktop "legacy" app and Paint 3D is a data mining store app and that's the point of it.
Paint.NET also isn't a great alternative, IMO. Photoshop still kills all alternatives though.
It had a good 30+ year run! I haven't used it personally in ages.
