    Interesting to suggest not that writers are intrinsically depressed, but that depressive people flock to writing. And this can contribute to what I see as something of a self-fulfilling prophecy: writers know we're "supposed" to be tortured, so we may be more inclined to indulge in and dwell on those feelings than the average joe.
