Who? What? Why? Where? When? White (Q Magazine Interview)
Glasgow’s White have just released new single Blush and announced they’ll play London’s XOYO on 3 November as part of the new Community Festival taking place in the capital. Frontman Leo Condie has some answers…
WHO would play you in the film of your life?
Tilda Swinton will play all five band members.
WHAT are you currently working on?
We are embedded deep in our underground lair/ recording studio, making acquaintance with melodies and chords. We’ve had a great summer of festivals, Reading/Leeds, Great Escape, and have just released our second single, Blush – which also got a stunningly weird & wonderful remix from Everything Everything. Next we’re headlining Tenement Trail in Glasgow (3 October), then playing London Calling in Amsterdam (31) and Community Festival in London (3 November). Before that, more songs.
WHY do you do that thing you do?
Camus once said: “A man’s work is nothing but this slow trek to rediscover, through the detours of art, those two or three great and simple images in whose presence his heart first opened.” But White want people to dance.
WHERE do you see yourself in ten years?
A chaise longue, precariously balanced on a rocky islet, the ocean clattering against this tiny protruberance, a bulwark against nature. All the while thinking, “I swear my phone said this was the way to the Slam Tent.”
WHEN will there be a harvest for the world?
Not until you’ve finished your dinner.
