I think that's definitely the case. You want CGI to enhance the experience...not totally replace it.

The depressing thing is the cable companies will probably try to collude with TV networks to yank content rights away from streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Video, even as customers are trying to depart the cable wasteland.

Have you considered becoming an independent IT consultant? I've seen a fair amount of people who have more control over their careers and seem to be genuinely happier in life. If you're up for it, I think it could be a wonderful career path

Depending on how much the average person enjoys it, perhaps being involved in making movies/TV shows.

There are a lot of researchers genuinely trying to demistify the natural world for us (and discover applications that might help the world). However, they are bogged down in chasing grants or scraping intermediate data that can't directly tell us much without extra work.

I'm far from an expert, but aside from costs of living, the driving factor might just be younger people have been indoctrinated into a "school/college/work" pipeline. This path might discourage/postpone career exploration and hinder kids from figuring out what want to do. As such, young people stay with their parents as a sort of buffer while they formulate a more concrete life/occupational goal. Nothing wrong with younger generation; just the best coping strategy for a system that tries too hard to be one size fits all.
