Microsoft is NOT abandoning Windows Phone: Brief History Explains How We Know
/t/windowsphone has been a little dead-ish so here's a brief recent history of what's been going on with Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile lately jam packed with info to help you shut the nay-sayers up. Great read and sheds some light on Microsoft's intentions going into the next year.

I had a Lumia 820 on launch, mainly for developer work but used it for a time as my primary. It was a nice enough experience, but certain things held the OS back, and from the current releases of Win Phone 10 preview, haven't been fixed. My main annoyance is the seeming 0.5 second delay between swiping and action. This is mainly noticable swiping form your front page to the "All Apps" view. It bugs me out far too much.
The other main issue can be fixed but will just take time - simply put, it needs good apps. And lots of them. Microsoft made a crucial error (which actually helped small developers like me) in thinking that number of apps was more important than quality of apps. Unfortunately, both the Windows Store and Windows Phone Stores are now filled with utter garbage. This needs to be a priority to fix if they're going to get anywhere with their store vision.
Overall, if they get some big name, quality apps and work on refining their UX, I would definitely consider moving back from Android.
Valid points but I think the delay times and such will be greatly improved by the time official release comes this fall, and OneCore should attract a plethora of developers new and old alike when they can create one badass quality app for xbone/pc/tabs and win mobile. :) Here's hoping.
It's what I've started to do. And with Xamarin, it means I can target all platforms with 1 code-base, with just minor UI changes/tweaks between platforms. It's really nice.
You're a living, breathing, walking proof of concept /u/HauntedCryme!
I'm sure Microsoft can find a way to thank me for being their next concept. Maybe a free Surface Pro 4 or something ;)
BREAKING NEWS: All WindowsInsiders to receive Surface Pro 4 after participation in Windows Insider Program!
... :( jk.
Unified Windows 10 OS platform on all devices should be a game changer for Microsoft.
It will be hard for devs to turn down writing one app for pcs/tabs/wp/xbone in one felt swoop.
This is good news.
Extraordinarily amazing news!
I just picked up a Lumia 640 to replace an aging Nexus 4 and I won't be going back anytime soon. I really like the experience and smoothness of WP and I don't use enough apps to feel like anything's missing. The Windows 10 update looks like it'll make things even better. I have plenty of hope in the OS.
Enjoy you're 640, I still have my first wp which was a Samsung Ativ SE that I picked up about 6 months ago. I love it and I have no doubt in my mind that Windows Mobile will thrive upon release of the OS this summer/fall.
Great addition /u/zgb! Thank you for contributing!
