Not your average fungi: Magic mushrooms follow cannabis for potential health benefits
With cannabis now legal in Canada, a new drug — Psilocybe cubensis (‘magic mushroom or ‘shrooms’) — has started to grow on those with depression and addictions. Psilocybe is a hallucinogen found in 100 species of mushrooms. They are illegal to posses in Canada with a sentence up to six months in jail or $1,000 fine or both. These mushrooms are eaten raw, cooked, or mixed in juice or tea (fungus delight). They can also be dried, crushed into powder, then snorted.
