What if this is our galaxy and the scientists were looking back in time at it? As in: it could be in that position twelve billion years ago, but the light just arrived here?
i think astrophysicists are aware of that possibility
and how would the light from our own galaxy at the position in the past travel away from our galaxy in a direction 12 billion light years away then travel back?
