'Russia rehearsed invasion of Sweden'
Claims that thousands of Russian soldiers took part in a huge military exercise which simulated a takeover of the Swedish island of Gotland earlier this year have caused jitters in Sweden. Some 33,000 Russian soldiers rehearsed a military takeover of the Baltic Sea area on March 21st to 25th, including practising the seizure of Gotland off Sweden's east coast, Danish island Bornholm, Finland's Swedish-speaking Åland islands and northern Norway...

They would have to go through Finland first. Not going to happen.
I'm not entirely sure why this is a surprise, major countries host war games all the time to practice scenarios that may or may not play out. The truth is, we very much feel that in the US and EU as well as other western countries that you should do as we say not as we do. The way we feel threatened by the things Russia does, Russia feels the same way towards actions we take.
So, what is Russia to do? They practice taking an island that would give them strategic control of the Baltic in the event that something happens. You'd be a fool to believe that other countries haven't thought the same way, I'd be surprised if NATO itself isn't thinking the same thing about using that island as a base for when or if Sweden joins them.
Any country that isn't training and planning several different scenarios and having their troops trained to implement those scenarios is not doing their job militarily.
