I'm thinking this too, for such a high profile prisoner they should have had more guards - perhaps better paid ones
Unreal. They should have just handed him to the US and be done with it.
There might be a good reason for not doing that.
Really, they should have just killed him.
And risk the chaotic violence that would ensue? No way
El PRI are pretty notorious for being corrupt to the core, so I wouldn't doubt it if he got the cartel to buy him out, or he payed off/threatened the prison guards/officials.
He probably paid the government off and walked out
through a 1.5 km tunnel
Escaped? More like was helped out. It's no secret that Mexican police are easily paid off.
There is a saying: police (and guards, and officials, and so on) are offered plata o plomo (silver or lead), which is to say: take a bribe, or take a bullet.
