Today I reached a goal I thought I'd never accomplish, a game I worked on is in a humble bundle
When I was really young I always wanted to make games. As I learnt more, and gained more skills I got pretty discouraged.
For reference, I'm 23, so that means I was around for the genesis, then very quickly the ps1, ps2, xbox.
By the time I was old enough to really understand what went into a game, I was playing halo. I realized the huge amount of work that went into any game, and honestly just kind of gave up. I started working with electronics, and was ready to go into computer networking and repair while on the wait list for electricians certification.
But just as I was about to leave highschool, the first humble bundle came out. I saw the kinds of games people could make on their own, or in small teams. I played braid, super meatboy, trine. It rekindled that spark I had for making games.
Just as that spark was coming back, I was given a choice. The guidance councillor came to my math class and said anyone could skip math to come watch a presentation from our local university. So of course I skipped math. After watching their presentation I realized I wasn't as far from being able to get into university as I thought. I only needed 1 credit. I had given up on going to university, my grades weren't the best, and I just wasn't really happy or confident in my self.
But I did it, I took an extra semester to get the credit I needed, and upgrade enough marks to even get a nice scholarship.
And today, without even knowing it would happen, I reached a goal I honestly didn't think would happen.
(I assume someone knew it was going to be in the bundle , but I left the company in January, a while after the game came out.)
So yeah, don't give up. If you want something, do it. Keep your stick on the ice. We're all rooting for you.

Congratulations on working hard and following your passions! :) What game were you working on?
