  • An emotional rollercoaster

After 19 innings of baseball on Canada Day, the Indians stormed onto the field to celebrate their victory, and continue their famed win streak. The opposite would be said for the Jays as they stormed into the locker room.

Unfortunately for me, I wasn't there for the first ''game''. I was celebrating Canada Day with my family and enjoying some board games, but I didn't expect the next 3 hours of extra innings to happen.

The game was off with brilliant starts from Stroman and Tomlin, who both only allowed a run and managed to shut down the offence.

In the meantime, one of the biggest naratives was the Blue Jays' rage on the umpiring crew, as suspicious calls were made against them. This transpired to the fans, whom, by the end of the 19th inning hated the man sitting behind the catcher, and booed him on every chance they had. The anger got so bad, that Encarnacion was ejected, as well as manager John Gibbons, and finally in the latter stages of the game, Russell Martin was also kicked out of the game.

Another imporant narrative was the relief pitching in this game. The relievers on both ends got the job done for their respective teams, for example, getting out of a bases loaded bottom of an inning, multiple chances to score that were cut out, and in general, solid relieving. But of course, as teams ran out of fuel, the Blue Jays used the opportunity to use Ryan Goins, one of their typical 2nd basemen, to pitch for them.

He did surprisingly well for his first major league pitching start. With the bases loaded and 1 out, he pulled an inning ending double play in order to send the game to the bottom of the 18th.

In the meantime, the Indians used their next starting pitcher for the following day, in order to keep control of the game. Trevor Bauer pitched about 5 innings of shutout baseball. He was awarded with the win, but the question rests for the Indians. Who will they use for tomorrow's game?

Finally in the 19th, the Jays pulled out another reliever, the man in question was Darwin Barney. Unfortunately for him, his first start didn't go too well, as the first batter he faced, Carlos Santana, homered into the right field wall. The rest of the inning went smoothly, but the damage was done.

The Jays couldn't find a proper answer in the 19th, and Canada Day ended in gloom for a high amount of people.

Marco Estrada should start for the Jays tomorrow (July 2nd). For the Indians, it is still undecided who will be the starting pitcher.
