Installed Debian on my production system

From Arch to Debian on the production computer. My little laptop keeps Arch.

  • As the title suggests, some changes have taken place in this household. There were no problems at all with the production system, but it is a nine year old little beast. I was reading about old systems (15 years and older) and Debian was named a few times as a good distro for older systems. Actually, it were different spins from it, which I do not like. The real deal or go home.

The install was easy, nice and graphical. I chose the net-install, because it gives me more options on what packages will be installed. The prefab stuff with a zillion packages I do not need is not wanted. Lean-mean-production-machine. Within about ten minutes it was all done, with compliments to the internet connection that seem to have a good day. Also, the servers the packages were hosted on, were pretty fast. I love that.

Pure Debian, with everything I need: video editing, graphic design and editing, sound recording and editing and web design. That's what I do on a computer and that's what's on it. I know I can do that with Arch also, but Debian is known for its' stability. I do not need cutting edge and the latest things for my work. I need the best and most trustworthy.

Am I a happy man? It's running for about a week now and I did never run into problems. Everything functions just as I want. I have to get used to the "apt" function, since it works different than Pacman. I did miss AUR on time, but a quick search on the web gave me the right .deb. So there.

Now I go back to work and hope I'll make the deadlines. :-)

All will be fine. I've mainly ran Debian based OS's. I did try Feddora and Arch, but Debian is my favorite. I am using Linux Mint now.
