Surrender at Appomattox 150th Anniversary Ceremony

Surrender at Appomattox 150th Anniversary American History TV was live from Appomattox Court House National Historical Park for a ceremony marking the exact time on April 9, 1865, that Generals Grant and Lee met at the McLean House to discuss terms of surrender. The event included a keynote address by historian Ed Ayers, president of the University of Richmond, as well as re-enactments of General Grant’s arrival at the McLean House and General Lee’s departure following his surrender. Other speakers included descendents of key aides who took part in the historic meeting.
