Disunion: Confederates at the Gate

On April 8, 1861, the same day that President Lincoln notified South Carolina’s governor that he intended to resupply Fort Sumter, ratcheting up the possibility of an armed Southern response, he also met with the governor of Pennsylvania, Andrew G. Curtin, at the White House. The president had more than Sumter on his mind.
