On Gaming and Identity: The Psychology of Feuding Fanboys
Nintendrone. Sony-Pony. Xbox Fanboy. PC Master Race. All of the above are manifestations of identity in the world of video games. As you may rightly assume, not all of these are friendly designations (though there's a surprisingly big community around the PC Master Race as you may soon discover). On the surface, these labels and their usage resemble mundane playground name-calling; ultimately, however, they reveal insight into the nature of the video game community at large, and the ties between video games, consumerism, and identity.
