Google gives Hangouts a dedicated website

This is fantastic!! I'm really excited about this! I frequently use hangouts from my phone, but when I'm at my computer, it's easier to just have a window open. The old hangouts layout from web browsers was really clunky and kind of a pain to use. I'm ecstatic about this!
I thought people generally just used Gmail for this functionality. At least I do, and from what I recall seeing around the office most people do to. I think there's one person who using the chrome app so that he gets popups over all windows.
What's the benefit to this?
