I don't get it. If companies partially pay for employee's healthcare insurance, and the insurance partially pays for birth control, how is forcing the insurance to provide birth control any different than it has always been?

Semantics to a degree. The employer is no longer directly contributing to the cost of birth control for their employee. The insurance company uses the profit from the policies they sell to purchase birth control and make it part of the mandated free preventive care system.

I'm sure there will be lawsuits as per standard practice.
