Gloria Victis: Exploring the Combat System
As an MMORPG set in a medieval world, Gloria Victis must inevitably focus on combat. The main idea was to base it on player skill instead of the characterâs statistics or equipment, contrary to the classic MMOs. To achieve this goal we decided to use a Non-Target system, so the player has to manually aim their attacks at the opponent at the right time, from a proper distance and direction, adjusting the strength of a strike as well.

Hopefully it ends up being good. The risk with these more skill-based combat systems in MMO's, is that you also need to make sure both the netcode works well as well that the servers are close enough to the players. Even small amounts of lag that may not even be overly noticeable in a traditional (tab-targeted) MMO could end up being highly frustrating when you need to aim your attacks. This becomes even more important with things like blocking or dodging. If they do manage to pull it off, it may end up being quite enjoyable.
