    I wonder can you go to the island and visit the lighthouse?

      Yep! Round trip ferry tickets are $35 for adults. Weather permitting, the ferry leaves from Leland, MI twice a day. Day trippers leave in the morning (10:00, I think) and return on the afternoon ferry @ 3:00. Plenty of time to see the lighthouse, which is close to the dock. Volunteers give tours of the lighthouse (basically just letting you climb to the top) most days. Here's the NPS page for the island and the ferry service's page.
