Fisheries advisory body axed
The federal government has played down the scrapping of a committee charged with providing scientific advice on shallow-water fishing in southern Australian waters. Jon Bryan had been part of the group since its inception a decade ago and criticised its disbanding, particularly in light of recent controversy over the trawler Geelong Star, which has killed nine dolphins in Australian waters over a matter of weeks.
