I'm not defending Venezuela. Chavez is a false socialist and revisionist swine. They are in a system of state capitalism and by no means are looking out for their people's best interests. But we must recognize the negative influence our hostile actions take. The instability we create in these countries allow for the will of the people to be silenced in the name of security. Latin America is in shambles largely because of us. Sponsoring cartels, coups, and right wing military gangs, ousting democratically elected leaders and rewarding illegal coups with government seats. Fueling the drug trade, sending violent gangs back in mass to under developed countries. And it's the same in Asia and the middle east. We need to stop with the imperialism.

Solitary confinement is psychological torture. Cutting off stimuli and interactions in humans causes extreme anxiety and depression (along with other things) and that alone qualifies it as psychological torture.

She was a whistle-blower, which is supposed to afford an immense amount of legal protection to people who oust the government in the people's best interest. These have been thrown out so that our government can punish people who do to stop it from happening. That is far too authoritarian and against what this country stands for. Now they're using psychological torture against her in order to teach anyone who's thinking of doing the same a lesson. Chelsea manning and Edward Snowden should be national heroes.
