Lyme park is about 20 mins from where I live and I love going there in summer :)
One day. One day I will visit England and visit EVERY SINGLE country estate and house and castle open to the public, as well as museums and old villages. THIS is the architecture that stirs my soul, not the modern glass and concrete of today.
Browse the National Trust site in the link. There are some fantastic houses and castles on there. The other organization dealing with those things is English Heritage http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/
